Bring to class:
iPhone or any smartphone with fully charged battery
optional: silver reflector about 20” diameter

Level: Basic

-Learn how to choose the best light when making portraits of people or animals
-Get familiar with the nuances of natural and artificial light
-Achieve superior results with the use of a simple reflector
-Find out how to avoid common mistakes when using smartphone camera for portraits of people or animals
-Learn how to achieve pleasing color and fix color casts in editing software when photographing people

Instructor: Anastasia Samoylova

Anastasia Samoylova is a 2018 ArtCenter resident artist. Her work investigates notions of environmentalism, consumerism and the picturesque. Samoylova has exhibited internationally at Aperture Foundation (New York), Griffin Museum of Photography (Boston), and Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago) for example. Her work has been featured in publications such as The New Yorker, Foam, and Wired. She worked as an assistant professor in Photography Foundations, Digital Imaging and Post-Production, Photography-1, Photography-2, and History of Photography at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and Illinois Central College.
