Dr. Robert M. Hazen will discuss his widely-acclaimed book The Story of Earth at a noon luncheon on Thursday April 26, in the Boettcher Room of the Arthur Lakes Library of the Colorado School of Mines (CSM). Dr. Hazen is Senior Staff Scientist at the Carnegie Institution’s Geophysical Laboratory, and the Clarence Robinson Professor of Earth Sciences at George Mason University.
The purpose of the Town and Gown Book Club is to read and discuss books of general interest, which access the expertise of the Town of Golden, CSM faculty/students, and visiting scholars. In our inaugural event, Dr. Hazen will pause on the second day of his two-day, CSM workshop, to initiate the Golden Town and Gown Book Club with a discussion of his book The Story of Earth (283 pages).
On April 26, a free buffet lunch will be provided, but you must register (by Thursday, April 12 please) by emailing Gyasi Evans (email@example.com) of the CSM Library to reserve your place. Limited places (ca. 50 total) are available for attendance.
Because CSM parking is at a premium, Golden has kindly agreed to provide a small bus, leaving the front door of the Golden Community Center at 11:30am, to Arthur Lakes Library, and returning about 2pm on 4/26/18.
Since seating on the bus is limited, in addition to pre-registering with firstname.lastname@example.org, please pre-register a second time for this free transportation in the Front Porch at the Golden Community Center
Registration for this luncheon event commits you to obtain a copy of The Story of Earth (either from a library, or from Amazon[$15.18]) and to read it, in preparation. On 4/26/18 Dr. Hazen will lead a discussion, answer any questions, and sign copies for attendees. A few (5-6) book study questions will be provided upon receipt of your registration.
