Collage Oil Painting Part 1 -Paint to the Grid” with Jared Weiss | 1 to 4PM at Santa Fe store. Price: $80 (BYO Materials) + Tax
In this class we will utilize a grid to construct a painting from photographic reference. The grid is a very old technique for scaling up images to be painted on a larger surface. And it works. Students will bring a number of images to class that they would be interested in using as reference for a painting. Why certain images will work better than others will be discussed. With this basic grid method, you can learn to make multi-layered collage oil painting later. We will be painting on a canvas that is 16” x 20” (this is INCLUDED) so bringing images that are of the same proportion will be important (4:5 ratio – so for example images that are 4”x5,” 8”x10,” or 12”x15” will work).
Maximum students: 12. Skill Level: Open to all.
Brushes – round and flat
Tear away palettes

Bio: Jared Weiss is an artist currently living and working in New Mexico. He received his BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design and his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. His work explores themes of memory and the complex relationship between one’s internal world and their environment. Weiss’s applications of exaggerated color and deliberately gestural, layered, brush strokes demonstrate the imperfections of sensory-recall. With collaged memories and layered fragments of the human psyche, figurative depictions emerge and engage in Weiss’s abstracted world. Blurring with their surroundings, his figures create scenes that somehow feel eerily familiar.
