Jasmine Greenwaldt, Alan Smith and George Skoudas will feature their work in "Awakening." The show runs May 1-28, 2018. The artists will host a First Friday opening reception 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 4, 2018.
The title,"Awakening," comes from the mergence of these three artists' work. All three reflect off the idea of coming to life and taking something that was once unnoticed or inexistent and turning it into something alive and beautiful.
Jasmine Greenwaldt combines a mixture of gentleness and serenity with a contrast of harshness and activity by playing with color, light and form. She welcomes the unexpected. The process of creation and exploration has just as much importance as the finished product itself. Her work is playful, exciting, and honest. With the goal of painting emotion, whether that be peace, chaos, sorrow or joy.
Alan Smith concentrates on local landscape and architectural subjects. Nebraska landscape is more diverse than people realize - While there are no towering mountain ranges, or picturesque coastlines, there is still much to appreciate. Capturing the beauty and uniqueness of Nebraska is both challenging and rewarding. His photographs are windows through which the viewer can see what he sees at a given moment, experience something he experienced at the time, recall a similar experience that they have had, or, perhaps, discover something new.
George Skoudas creates works from found objects. He takes what is old and brings a new life into it. His playful twist on machinery and metal scraps turned into robots or living sculptures brings a twist of fun to once discarded or broken items.
