Join ArtXchange Gallery and artist Humaira Abid in celebrating the closing of her solo exhibition, My Shame, with a improvisational solo dance by Jasmmine Kaur Ramgotra in reaction to Abid's work.
Come take one last look at this truly exceptional exhibition of carved wood sculptures, often incorporating elements of miniature painting and installation, examining the stigma that women feel over natural, social and cultural issues.
Humaira Abid's newest publication, Taboo, will be available for sale and signing by the artist. Taboo covers the My Shame exhibition at ArtXchange Gallery and Twelve Gates Arts (Philadelphia) and the Searching for Home exhibition at Bellevue Arts Museum, with an introduction by internationally renowned Pakistani novelist Bapsi Sidhwa.
Closing Reception Dance Performance (begins at 2pm)
Jasmmine Kaur Ramgotra // JASE will be performing a structured improvisational solo in reaction to Abid’s My Shame installation, reflecting on her own intersectional identity as a mixed-race East Indian queer woman fighting to hold on to both her cultural roots and her genuine sense of self walking the border between these worlds. The content of Abid’s installation resonates deeply in the body, and JASE will embody and transform that emotional energy into an ephemeral manifestation in the presence of the work.
