TO CONSTELLATE FOR DISPERSION is a research-based art project by Doris Sparreboom (NL) and Dovilė Aleksandravičiūtė (LT).

The core reference used in this exhibition is the concept of unconventional materials. Those are the materials that would not traditionally be seen as materials for visual arts. This concept implicates the way in which both Sparreboom and Aleksandravičiūtė approach their artistic practice. Both artists happen to share a sincere enthusiasm for inspirations outside of the traditional realm of visual art (mainly, literature and cooking). Despite their differences in backgrounds and aesthetic preferences, through curiosity and open-mindedness, Doris and Dovilė explore how those interests can lead to the visual art production.

Doris Sparreboom (NL) studied Fine Arts at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam (2015) and is currently enrolled in the MA Artistic Research program at the University of Amsterdam. Over the past two years, Doris has been doing research into the possibility of bread as artistic material, and she explores the agency of material as such. Through her work, she aims to show the different stages of transformation that bread goes through, from grain to loaf. Furthermore, she explores the similarities of dough with other conventional artistic materials like clay and wax. For the occasion of this exhibition, she will present a lecture-performance on the agency of material.

Dovilė Aleksandravičiūtė (LT) is a graduate of Vilnius Academy of Arts Art History department (2011), Gerrit Rietveld Academy Fine Arts department (2015) and is currently enrolled in the MA Artistic Research program in the University of Amsterdam. In her artistic practice, she focuses on the materiality of language and aims to blur the lines between literature and visual arts.
In her latest work 'Conditions', she is using written texts sound and images to create an atmosphere that leads the viewer to the mental space of grandeur aspirations and vagueness.

TO CONSTELLATE FOR DISPERSION opens on Friday the 6th of April at 7 pm, where a variety of bread and kvass (Eastern European bread based soda) will be served. The exhibition will be open on Saturday from 2 pm to 6 pm. The show will close on Sunday with a lecture-performance by Doris Sparreboom at 5 pm.
