This fun one-day workshop is an introduction to Wycinanki, the Polish style of papercutting! Students will use exacto knives and special fine scissors to cut a design out of black paper using a simple single fold. Traditional Polish templates will be provided, and students can use them as a starting point, or as an inspiration for their own creativity! We will address techniques for smooth cutting and reduced tearing, composition and use of negative space, and securing the design to a background for framing. Students must bring short-blade, sharp scissors. Embroidery scissors will work, and papercutting scissors are readily available. Instructor will provide Exacto knives, extra blades, scherenschnitte paper, mounting supplies and cellophane sleeves to take finished work home.
Pre-registration is required.
