On Friday, April 20th, we are hosting an event at Baboquivari HS called "You Are Not Alone: Taking Action Together". It going to be a day of looking at how we can prevent violence in schools comprehensively: strengthening our communication and reporting systems between students, staff, and outside agencies to intercept and respond to potential threats; advocating for increased youth mental health funding and services on the Nation; and gun safety legislation reform.
We will start at 9:30 AM with a morning session that will have different speakers. Afterward, parents, guardians, and community members can attendg an emergency services Q and A with school safety personnel and community safety programs (TOPD, Office of Emergency Management, Behavioral Health, etc) and students will be attending a small group workshop. The workshops will be focused on brainstorming what youth perceive as things we lack at the school in terms of community-building and mental/emotional health supports, imparting strategies for speaking up when they hear other students threaten themselves or others, and feeling empowered to have a voice in the youth activism going on at a national level.
Lunch will be provided to all who attend.
