Meet at Dunham's Parking Lot in Scottsboro at 8:45am. EVERYONE must sign a liability waiver before we depart at 9am. Please park at the end of the parking lot, away from the store.
First Stop - Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery, informally known as OLAM Shrine, is a prominent Roman Catholic Latin Rite shrine. Adjacent is the cloistered Monastery of the Poor Clare Nuns of Perpetual Adoration, situated on a 400-acre site and a religious center affiliated with the Eternal Word Television Network. The Shrine is notable for its gilt interior, solemn atmosphere, and 7.5 foot tall monstrance. The Shrine is named in honor of the Most Blessed Sacrament, while the building surround...ings are dedicated to the Divino Niño, a title of the Child Jesus found prominently displayed all over the area. Its foundress, Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, resided at the cloistered monastery with her nuns until her death in 2016. We will experience a private spiritual guided tour that will include walking, standing and sitting. The tour will begin in Castle San Miguel with a full tour of the Castle, Creche (Nativity Scene), Main Church, Shroud of Turin Exhibit, Lower Church, etc. You will also have time to walk the grounds and explore the church on your own. Please dress modestly while touring the Shrine. No short shorts or skirts above the knee or low-cut, sleeveless shirts allowed. Please respect their beliefs and practices. You will have time to change after the tour if you want to dress differently for the remainder of the day. Thank you.
Second Stop - Lunch. Those of you who attended the Food Tasting events I had when The Social Nook was still open probably remember the Southern Mix Catering Company. They had the amazing tropical chicken salad and cornbread salad, among many other favorites. They have opened their own restaurant in Hanceville and we are going to have our lunch with them! You will love their unique flavors and southern charm.
Third Stop - Ave Maria Grotto. The Grotto is a landscaped, 4-acre park in an old quarry on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey, providing a garden setting for 125 reproductions of some of the most famous religious structures of the world. This places is something you have to see in person. Pictures do not capture its beauty or the feeling you will experience as you walk through the garden. We will watch a 20-minute history movie in the chapel before taking a self-guided tour of the gardens. You will also get to experience true, handmade Monks' Bread.
If time allows, there will be a surprise stop on our way home. We should arrive back in Scottsboro by 6:30pm
