In 2017, CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson became the first approved site to offer CenteringPregnancy to prenatal patients.
Dr. Thomas Arnold has been passionate about bringing CenteringPregnancy to Dickinson ever since he was introduced to this group model of prenatal care by colleagues in other regions of the United States. The results this program enjoyed in other parts of the country made a huge impression on Dr. Arnold – lowered rates of preterm births, higher breastfeeding rates, and higher patient and physician satisfaction scores. He was drawn to the idea that mothers can receive the exact same prenatal care as they would with a one-on-one appointment, plus added time with their providers, added educational time, and added connectedness with their peers. As a physician, it would allow him more time to cover more in-depth topics with a group of mothers of the same gestational age, eliminating the need to repeat information and inviting patients to pose questions that other patients in the group may have wondered but did not voice.
Dr. Thomas Arnold has been practicing medicine in the Dickinson area for three decades, providing
care for women in all stages of life. He is both a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He currently sees patients in the Women’s Health department of CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson Medical Clinic.
