FUNDRAISER!! Help the people of Pont Valley Protection Camp raise the £5000 fine they received for protecting our countryside from opencast mining! There’s gonna be bands, glitter, henna, comedic nuns, maybe a raffle… think weird primary school fundraiser meets the first festival of the summer, but indoors at Bar Loco... gonna be a crease.
Banks Group plan to imminently extract 500,000 tonnes of coal from the Pont Valley, near Dipton, County Durham via an open cast pit. After challenging this project for decades, a community camp has been set up by local residents and supporting campaigners to directly protect the land from destruction. The open cast threatens to damage the health of local residents, destroy the beautiful landscape, endanger rare species and habitats and contribute to catastrophic climate change. The project will only create 30 jobs, most of which will go to current Banks Group employees from outside the area, all whilst the UK commits to a coal phase out by 2025.
