This spring Bard Graduate Center is partnering with Textile Arts Center to run monthly hands-on workshops for kids that respond to our two exhibitions The Codex and Crafts in Late Antiquity and Fabricating Power with Balinese Textiles. In each 90 minute session, kids will learn a variety of textile making techniques, take home their creations, and have fun!

Saturday, April 21, 11 am - 12:30 pm
Drawing with Thread
In this workshop, students will be introduced to different embroidery stitches and techniques, while working creating a "drawing" on fabric based on their vision.
Saturday, May 19, 11 am - 12:30 pm
Handmade Sumingashi Notebooks
In this workshop, students will learn will learn the basics of bookbinding and book structures while creating a handmade notebook. Additionally, students will also experiment suminagashi, an ancient marbling technique, to create different designs on their notebook's paper.
Saturday, June 15, 11 am - 12:30 pm
Woven Beaded Jewelry
In this workshop, students will learn how to weave with beads, while creating a piece of jewelry based on their design: bracelet, necklace pendant, or keychain.
Textile Arts Center is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults.
All workshops take place at 18 West 86th Street on the 4th Floor.
