Doug and Beth Searcy Honorees for Wilson Roasts for Habitat

Wilson Area Habitat for Humanity will honor and “roast” Dr. Douglas Searcy, President of Barton College, and his wife, Beth Searcy at the sixth annual Wilson Roasts for Habitat. This is the first year that Habitat is honoring not only a woman but also a couple. Doug and Beth were chosen for their exceptional commitment to Wilson and the college. Their leadership has made a big impact in our community, and we are happy that they will be part of this benefit event. Wilson Roasts for Habitat will be held Thursday, April 19, at Hardy Alumni Hall on the Barton College campus, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
For the fifth year in a row, BB&T is the Signature Partner for the Roast. First Citizens Bank is this year’s Community Partner in support of the Roast. Local businesses and individuals have signed on as table sponsors for the dinner. Table sponsorships are available for $1,000. A limited number of individual tickets at $50 each may be available after table sponsors claim their seats. Those who wish to attend the Roast may call 291-0816 or email director@wilsonhabitat.org to purchase tickets.
With the Searcy’s leadership and encouragement, Barton College and Wilson Area Habitat for Humanity have partnered together to create many volunteer opportunities for their students. Barton students have been a part of several construction volunteer days, two volunteer projects at the Habitat ReStore, and many students have even become contributors to Habitat. Wilson Area Habitat for Humanity hopes to increase this relationship by providing volunteer internships and more community outreach projects in partnership with Barton in the future.
Wilson Area Habitat for Humanity builds, rehabs or repairs houses for low-income families who cannot obtain a conventional mortgage or cannot maintain their homes. Habitat makes no profit and charges no interest on its mortgages.
