Silver Social – promoting friendship and fun for the over 60’s in Lisburn
With the ever increasing awareness of mental health issues such as loneliness and isolation, one local Lisburn restaurant is leading the way with the continued growth of an event called ‘Silver Social’.
Silver Social focuses on; dining together, enjoying great food and company, as well as live music from local entertainer ‘Velvet’. The event takes place on the first Tuesday of every month from 12.30pm – 2.30pm at Beef & Bird restaurant, located at Lisburn Leisure Park. (Excludes Easter Tuesday - Silver Social will be held on Tuesday 10th April instead)
Launched in the summer of 2017, the event continues to be a great success and is popular with customers due to the great food, welcoming atmosphere and friendships that have been formed.
Restaurant owner Bronagh Campbell explains “We wanted to encourage our senior customers to eat well and feel welcome in the restaurant. Customers sit together around what we call a ‘social table’ which encourages conversations and a chance to meet new people, the atmosphere is always lively and everyone enjoys the live music and dancing.”
Co-Owner and head chef Anton Campbell continues “Customers have said they don’t really bother cooking just for themselves, or when they do, they have to eat the same thing for a few days. My main aim is ensure that they get a really tasty meal, cooked fresh, using some of the best local produce Northern Ireland has to offer.”
The restaurant is working with local events company ‘Extravaga’ to offer a range of alternative events, not yet seen in Northern Ireland. Amanda Kirkpatrick, owner of Extravaga says; “Social need is at the heart of what we do and we are committed to making a difference with the events we create. We make it easy for people to get together and have a good time. Beef & Bird reflect that perfectly and are building great relationships with their customers.”
The restaurant, now offers a seniors discount menu every Tuesday from 12 – 4pm, which includes a 2 course lunch, plus tea or coffee for £9.95 per person.
