The Girls in Grey is an impactful and eye-opening story inspired by the diaries and letters of our Australian nurses. After winning 6 awards at the Beenleigh Festival of One-Act Plays, this performance will be returning for ANZAC Day.
2,139 Australian women served as Nurses in WWI. 25 died in duty. These women were The Girls in Grey.
Elsie, Grace and Alice joined Australian Army Nursing Reserve seeking to prove their worth and find adventure. They soon find themselves serving in Egypt, Lemnos Island and the Western front, their character and practice being tested by the war in ways they never could have predicted.
This story commemorates the selfless and courageous service of these nurses, and sheds light on the reality of life in active duty.
With a cast of young people, The Girls in Grey informs, educates and preserves the voices of these women for the new generation.
