Saltwater Prep Class - September 9, 2017 (Getting ready)

Six nights and five guided days fishing the flats and rivers surrounding Belize River Lodge in central Belize. The lodge is small, offers great food with gracious hospitality, in a family atmosphere.

A variety of fish species exist within easy reach of the lodge, which is actually located on the Belize River. Bonefish, Snook, Permit, and Tarpon are the most sought after targets. Most fisihing is done on the extesive flats in central Belize, however, many rivers and lagoons also provide variety especially when the weather gets rough on the flats.

A great trip for the first time Saltwater angler as well as the veteran. You don't have to cast a country mile. Bonefish are numerous and often caught within 40 feet of the boat. Small Tarpon up to 80lbs can be found year around. Belize is known worldwide for its Permit fishing - there is a good chance you will encounter them. Snook can be found around the Mangroves along the Islands and rivers - casting streamers into their lire can lead to explosive strikes!

Roaming and fishing the flats is done from 23 foot Pangas, which are stable seaworthy boats designed for fishing the flats. The native guides speak english and are very knowledgeable.

I will offer a Saltwater Prep Class on September 9th where you can ask questions, practice saltwater casting techniques and learn about the flies, leaders & equipment needed. If interested, tying demos of the basic fly patterns can also be arranged.
