La Trobe University, Bendigo Regional Archives Centre and Goldfields Library invites you to:
"Childhood and Faith on the Goldfields", a seminar by Natasha Joyce, a postgraduate history student at La Trobe University.
As part of the La Trobe University Faith on the Goldfields project, Natasha Joyce has been exploring the role of faith in childhood on the Bendigo goldfields during the first days of the gold rush. The exciting discovery of a young Quaker girl’s journal detailing her family’s 1855 journey from Melbourne to Bendigo has led to an examination of childhood migration and transnational religious transitions.
In this seminar, Natasha will tell Lucy’s story and analyse her journal. How did the families’ Quaker faith sustain them during their difficult journey and what role did it play in their time living in Bendigo?
