WHAT IS IT
The event is organised for crews of persons with no or very little rowing experience. During April and May the crews will be coached and coxed by rowing club members resulting in round robin style racing for men, women and mixed crews in coxed fours over a 400m downstream course. Year on year this has become more and more fancy dress based, which makes for a fun spectacle. We generally have over 70 crews enter.
As well as the races on the water, the day also involves ergo (rowing machine) competitions, a barbecue and a disco on the evening. It’s very much a family day held the weekend before the local carnival which starts off carnival week in the town, with fun to be had by all, participants and spectators alike.
So get planning now, entries are welcome for the following events:
Men’s Coxed Fours
Women’s Coxed Fours
Mixed Coxed Fours
You can enter a complete crew of four friends, family or colleagues, a partial crew or as an individual. For partial crews and individuals we’ll match you up to create some composite crews.
HOW TO ENTER
Please download and complete the Regatta Entry Form for the crew (just one form per crew). Each individual crew member also needs to complete the pub and club membership form, both of these can be found on our website http://www.bewdleyrc.co.uk/pub-club/
All these forms should then be handed to a member of the club along with your entry fee.
WHAT IT COSTS
The entry fee is £60 per crew for which you’ll receive almost 6 weeks training and coaching with a maximum of six 1 hour sessions on the water over those 6 weeks, your entry into the Regatta, full access to the club, its gym and the bar! – and you don’t get value like that these days!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
All you need is some enthusiasm and standard sports clothing. Rowing is a water sport, so you can expect to get a bit wet from splashes etc so you should also bring along a change of clothes when training on the water.
We have changing rooms and showers at the club for you to use.
All coaching and equipment will be provided by us, and we’ll cox the boats (unless you have an experienced cox of your own you want to bring along) but don’t forget all rowers must have no, or very little experience.
WHAT YOU'LL WIN
The winners receive a year’s full club membership worth over £300 and a pewter tankard each.
WHEN TRAINING STARTS
The 6 weeks of training starts from Saturday 21st April. You will receive coaching with a maximum of six 1 hour sessions on the water over the 6 weeks leading up to race day on Saturday 2nd June. You do not have to start training the first weekend but it's more beneficial to try and start as soon as you can and do one session a week, as the closer it gets to race day the quicker the training session time slots fill up.
WHEN IS THE TRAINING SESSIONS
Training sessions will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Sessions are to be booked by going to the club.
