Make a Dress in a Day Workshop
Once again this year the beautiful Holly from HollyCrow is our resident dressmaker! Holly designs, makes and sells beautiful vintage inspired women’s clothing and accessories. She is incredibly passionate about fashion, vintage and the designing and making process (she is also very, very lovely) so we thought she was the perfect lady to to be part of the Bibelot team and teach some of our sewing workshops.
What you will make….. A fabulous circle skirt dress.
What you will learn….. In this all day dressmaking workshop you will learn how to improve your garment making knowledge, measure yourself correctly to ensure a perfect fit, how to cut out your garment without wasting fabric, how to use a pattern block, how to put in a dress zip and how to successfully shape armholes and necklines. At the end of the day you should have a fabulous, completed dress which you can proudly say was handmade by you!
The skills you learn from the day should enable you to try further projects but we also offer lots of other sewing workshops to build up your confidence and develop your sewing techniques. Please take a look at out other workshops.
What’s included….. The use of a sewing machine, pattern block and any other equipment required (the pattern block must not be taken home but we do have many simple top patterns available to buy), interfacing, a hook and eye, 15% off any of Bibelot’s fabric, etc purchased to use in the workshop, refreshments, light lunch and cake is provided (tea or coffee, sandwiches, crisps & homemade cake served on vintage china).
You will also receive a 10% off voucher (valid for one week) for any haberdashery or craft items. (Please note: the 15% and 10% discounts cannot be combined. The 15% off is to be used before the workshop to purchase the fabric that will be used for your dress. The 10% off voucher can be used for any haberdashery or craft item that you buy up to a week after the workshop.)
What you need to bring….. You will need to bring fabric (please see table at bottom of the page for fabric quantities), matching thread and a 20″ dress zip in a coordinating colour to chosen fabric. You can purchase all the above from us and receive 15% off. The fabric must be cotton or cotton poplin. The fabric must not be jersey or stretch fabric or have stripes, checks or patterns that need matching. These fabrics are very difficult to work with and are not suitable for beginners.
