Time to get out and about Katy!! We will be hitting the road and hitting the trails in Big Bend National Park! This will be a Jeep Badge of Honor trail run!
The plan is to leave early (4am) on Thursday April 12th and arrive around 2pm. We will be riding the trails at our own leisure for the remainder of Thursday, ultimately making our way to our primitive campsite for some rest and relaxation after a long drive.
Friday will be the Jeep Badge of Honor run! We will be taking on Black Gap trail road. From what I have read, this trail is a really fun trail, there are a few technical spots, but if you have been to Hidden Falls or Wolf Caves then this will be nothing more technical than that. A stock jeep or lightly modified jeep is all you will need. We will help each other out and make our way through the trail and earn that Badge of Honor!! After the trail we have a few options, we can continue to explore off road trails or we can head to our primitive camp sight and get set up for the evening. We can figure this out after we see how long it takes to do Black Gap trail.
Saturday we will be meeting up with TX4WDSL and hit the trails with them! They will be down there for a separate event and we will be combining with them. We will do Old Ore trail road and lots of sightseeing and photo taking along the way.
Friday and Saturday night we can hit the hot springs and relax! The hot springs is literally a stones throw away from Mexico, right on the Rio Grande river!
Be sure to bring plenty of food and plenty of gas! This will be my first time out there and i'm not sure how easily gas will be accessible. My advice would be bring a couple jerry cans just in case.
All camping will be done at remote primitive camp sites scattered throughout Big Bend National Park, that means there will be no bathrooms (so bring a shovel) or amenities available. Just us and the stars!
We can either fend for ourselves as far as dinner goes or we can decide who is going to bring what and make a big dinner each night. We have to keep in mind that camp fires aren't allowed and all food will have to be cooked on camping stoves.
Sunday will be a travel day. We will wake up early and head back to Katy!
If you would like my camping equipment list to get an idea of what to bring feel free to ask.
Comment in this event with questions/concerns.. More info will be available on which specific sites we will be camping at.
