Discover Bloom! More than a year after announcing our intention to provide innovative progressive education to families in Bloomington-Normal, we launched a successful summer program serving more than 50 families and a pilot academic year including 30 K-6 students in three classrooms. As we continue to grow, we are hosting an open house for families interested in 2018-2019 enrollment.
Bloom Community School offers a uniquely innovative approach to K-6 education in McLean County. A nonprofit, progressive, private school, Bloom offers a full-time, comprehensive, innovative education program to cultivate joyful and independent learners in an environment that nurtures individual development by integrating high academic standards and community engagement.
Our elementary program offers multi-graded classrooms designed for fluidity in adapting to the multifaceted needs of students. The daily schedule includes plenty of time for indoor and outdoor play, and skill-building in specific core areas to enhance project-based learning opportunities.
Bloom operates from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., with an excellent before- and after-care program, Blooming Minds, available on-site.
We approach our K-6 programs with this philosophical framework:
CHILDREN ARE NATURAL LEARNERS.
Our school honors and nurtures students’ natural curiosity and innate desire to learn, fostering internal motivation and the passion for discovery.
EDUCATION SHOULD ENHANCE INDIVIDUALITY, NOT DEMAND CONFORMITY.
Education should respond to the unique developmental trajectory of all students and focus on their holistic social, emotional, intellectual, cognitive, cultural, and physical development.
LEARNING HAPPENS BEST THROUGH INTEGRATED AND MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES.
Children learn best through hands-on opportunities that weave relevant skills and content throughout interdisciplinary projects and provides them with hands-on and authentic learning opportunities.
EDUCATION SHOULD EMPOWER STUDENTS TO IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNITIES AND WORLD.
Effective educational experiences amplify students’ voices, agency, conscience, and intellect to create a more equitable, just, and sustainable world.
