ALL DAY With purchases over $10, you get a free Bookends & Beginnings bumper sticker and a custom-designed store postcard by artist and staff member George Booker, introducing a new line of custom-designed Bookends & Beginnings postcards, notecards, and posters by George that will debut for sale in the store soon!

ALL DAY Unique, limited-edition items for sale, exclusively designed for indie stores today, including a book club journal featuring 45 original, quirky, themed reading lists from authors and bookstores across the country, and literary tea towels with quotes from Julia Child and Anthony Bourdain.

10:30 am Special Storytime: Reading & Giveaway of Maisy Goes to the Local Bookstore
Join us to find out what happens when beloved storybook character Maisy goes to her local bookstore to buy a new book. Will it be the big brown book about bears, a long blue book about fish, a noisy book about trucks, and a book about things to draw and paint? Kids will take home a free copy of the book (while supplies last, one per family, please!)

3 pm What's With Chicago? Trivia Contest with author Ellen Shubart
Author Ellen Shubart will explore the quirks, personality and charm of the Windy City with a Trivia Contest based on her new book, What's With Chicago? How much do you know about Chicago? Why don't Chicagoans put ketchup on their dogs? How did a snowstorm change a mayoral election? What was the tallest building in the world when it first went up?Try your luck -- and compete for fabulous prizes, including a First Prize gift certificate of $25 to the store, Second Prize $15, and Third Prize $10.

5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Great Books Foundation Launches its New Big Ideas in Popular Culture Anthologies

The Great Books Foundation is launching a new series of three anthologies that explore the immense impact of popular culture on our lives: Sound Bites: Big Ideas in Popular Music; Double Features: Big Ideas in Film; and Tube Talk: Big Ideas in Television. These anthologies showcase some of the most vibrant and provocative short stories, poems, memoirs, essays, and journalism dealing with popular culture topics that have been published over the last 70 years.

The launch event at Bookends & Beginnings will feature readings by authors from the anthologies: Devin McKinney ("Beatlemania: A Love Story") and Walter Podrazik ("Pursuit of the Public Interest in the Vast Wasteland"), with more authors to be announced. Readings will be followed by a group discussion and a lively question and answer session, moderated by Joseph Coulson, former president of the Great Books Foundation.

This event includes light refreshments, so please visit greatbooks.org/booklaunch
