Southern literary legend Charles Frazier, author of COLD MOUNTAIN, will visit Winston-Salem as he tours for his new novel VARINA. Frazier’s fourth novel takes us back to the setting made famous in Cold Mountain, and in the terrible aftermath of the Civil War, we see one woman, forced into an unwanted marriage, fleeing for her life and for the sake of her children. The South comes alive once again for Frazier as he tackles tough national questions that are still relevant today.
We're excited to have Sarah McCoy, bestselling author and new resident of Winston-Salem, to join Charles Frazier in conversation at this event. Sarah is the author of three novels: THE TIME IT SNOWED IN PUERTO RICO, THE BAKER'S DAUGHTER, and THE MAPMAKER'S CHILDREN which features another historical female character, Sarah Brown, daughter of abolitionist John Brown. Sarah's research and historical fiction expertise will make this a wonderful dialogue between the two authors. Bookmarks will be hosting Sarah McCoy again in October for the launch of her new novel, MARILLA OF GREEN GABLES.
Foothills beer tastings and music will begin at 6 p.m., and Frazier and McCoy will speak at 6:30 p.m. Book sales before and after at Bookmarks and booksignings will take place following the event. Free and open to the public.
