Raga Jam Session

Soma Sarkar Preciado is a Hindustani Classical Vocalist, a Music Educator, and a Child Development specialist in the state of Maryland. She is a senior disciple of her guru Late Shri Dilip Baran Sarkar of Agra Gharana. Shri D.B. Sarkar came from the lineage of Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan of Atruli and Agra Gharana, legendary artist and Guru, Pundit Gyan Prakash Ghosh to name a few. After receiving the "Sangeet Visharad with Distinction” degree from Chandigarh University, Soma was offered to work on her Masters degree in Music Education at The New England Conservatory, Boston. This program also invited her to use her knowledge and training in Hindustani Classical music and work on a unique research program called 'Learning Through Music' which stemmed from 'Project Zero' at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, MA. In this program, Soma had the opportunity to work under the guidance of Professor Lyle Davidson, Professor Peter Row, and Professor Warren Sanders. Soma is the founder of her school, 'Arapan' (dedicated to her parents) and has been teaching students of all ages and stages in the DMV area, around the US, and internationally through in-person and online methods. Her teaching methods are backed by current research on developmentally appropriate practices in childhood and scientific pedagogical content knowledge in music education. She considers herself blessed to pursue music as a career and
honored to be the torch bearer of Hindustani Classical music for the patrons of this form of music.

After the performance our jam session will follow. We are focused on encouraging spontaneous collaboration between smaller groups of musicians. Pairs, trios, quartets: join up with other musicians that are present or that you've met at past events and sign up for a slot to play. We only ask that your performance is rooted in or inspired by the tradition of Indian Classical Music.

Thank you for your support!!
