Please join us for First Friday May 4th featuring local artist Eddie Dimitrius Scott.
Eddie Dimitrius Scott grew up in a constant state of travel due to his parents being in the military. This experience was an exposure to a variety of cultures, beliefs, and people which shaped and influenced his imagination. Eddie gradually began to explore and express topics personal in subject, but expansive enough to be relatable and felt by others. Eddie attended and graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art. It was during his study that he began to explore social and psychological issues that were dark and contradicting in nature. With the blending of his own views and understanding of these topics, Eddie has created surreal, dream-like imagery that range from light and humorous to dark and haunting.
Eddie’s work continues to explore contradictions in psychological and social issues that manage to somehow blend and coexist. His works express his understanding and perspective of the world or given topic, giving light to the viewer his own ignorance and naivety. It is this honest approach that gives insight to the artist’s upbringing, education and understanding of these issues that are married with his imagination. His work reflects growth through childlike imagination, often reinforced by fantastical saturated colors that blend and dissolve into the darker themes and harsh reality that growing adults are eventually confronted with. His interests include the occult, mythology, epics, psychology, astrology and powerful female figures which often are incorporated into his work.
Eddie now currently resides in South Portland, ME and works at Artist & Craftsman Supply in Portland, ME from 2011 to present.
