For almost 25 years, Brazos Valley TROUPE has been the place to go for children interested in theater, and that legacy continues unchecked. A number of TROUPE graduates have gone on to success on Broadway and in Hollywood. Not only do TROUPE participants learn every aspect of theater, from script-writing to set and costume design to performing, they develop confidence and skills that will serve them well throughout their life.
Part of the TROUPE experience is the opportunity to participate in the annual TNT youth theater conference, hosted every summer by Texas Nonproft Theatres. There, students get to show off their acting skills, interact with young people from other youth theater companies and learn new skills. This year's 23rd annual conference will be in Irving June 13-17. This will be the 21st time Brazos Valley TROUPE will participate in the state's premier youth theater event. Twenty-eight TROUPErs will attend this year's conference and the students are working hard to raise the money they will need to pay for the trip. To that end, TROUPE will present One Short Day, a dessert-theater fund raiser celebrating the music of Oz, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and April 8 at 3 p.m.
The musical revue presents the wonderful music from Broadway shows based on L. Frank Baum's books: The Wizard of Oz, The Wizand Wicked. "Baum's writings are a beloved part of our tapestry and the music from the musicals are absolute treasures," said TROUPE's incredibly talented managing/artistic director M.A. Sterling. TROUPE's Pen PALS writing group have written a fun script to tie the music together. Tickets are $25 at the door and $22.50 if purchased here online atwww.eventbrite.com (the best way to guarantee a seat).
The cast of One Short Day includes Daniel Beck, Jesse Burdine, Izzy Burlin, Carabelle Case, Jadyn Case, Joseph Finch, Haille Goodman, Jessica Goodman, Brit Holland, Emma Lawson, Dusty Osburn, Paige Perrone, Jacob Smith, M. A. Sterling, Ron Toback-Wolf, Liam Vantine, Sage Vantine, Maddie Weeks, Emma West, AJ Wright, Reece Wright and Kentaro Yamauchi. Waiters and servers include Charlotte England, Henry England, Alex Lawson, Marissa Moats, Josh Poirot, Evelyn Schmeichel, Caroline Stanton and Elizabeth Stanton. Sterling directs and musically stages the show while Shelby Rowan serves as costume designer and Calista Moats serves as technical designer for lighting and sound. In addition to great music and amazing desserts, there will be a number of items available for purchase, including Over The Rainbow swag bags, Yellow Brick Road bricks and cups celebrating TROUPE's upcoming 25th Anniversary. Every purchase garners tickets for several drawings. The grand prize is two season passes for TROUPE's upcoming 2018-2019 season, which is themed "Everything Old Is New Again!" So next weekend, ease on down the road to TROUPE's 29th Street Studio, 3702 E. 29th St. in Bryan's Town & Country Center.
Speaking of trips ...
Another great benefit of being a Brazos Valley TROUPE member is the chance to travel to New York City every summer to see the very best Broadway has to offer. In addition to seeing a number of plays and musicals, TROUPE youth participate in a series of workshops taught by Broadway's best actors and crews. It is an amazing opportunity. This year's trip will be July 30 through Aug. 6. Managing/artistic director M.A. Sterling has just returned from a trip the New York to line up workshops and make selections of productions trip participants will see. The whole community is invited to participate and this makes an outstanding family vacation. The absolute deadline to sign up for this trip is April 10.
