Nathan Brown
Functional Potter, Human Being

My name is Nathan Brown. I’m an artist, a graphic designer, a musician, a mediocre cook, a husband, a father, and a student of life. I enjoy traveling the world, but I always long for my home town of Paducah, where I revel in family traditions and the rich cultural traditions of Kentucky’s Western Waterways. I’m dedicated to my community, and hope to serve those around me in all capacities related to creativity, heritage, the arts and authentic living.

I believe self expression is the greatest gift each of us can share with the world. I believe that the act of sharing the air we breathe with all the creatures on earth engages us, unifies us, and casts us in this cosmic play we call life. And in this life, we all play a part. Individualism is our duty.

I am a functional potter. My work is meant to be used. My forms are meant to be vessels that reflect the elements that connect us all. Earth, Movement, Fire,Water and Life.

I believe when we integrate hand-made artisanal items in our everyday lives, we enhance our participation and begin living with intention. Art is an investment, not only in the micro-economies of the artist, the shops, and the health of our community, but in the very soul of us all.

Find a piece that speaks to you. Pick it up. Flip it over. Hold it. Pass it to a friend. Imagine these pieces being used how they were intended. Warmed with nourishment. Touched with hands. Touched with mouths. This work is hand-made, personal, intimate, and is intended to be enjoyed and shared.
