It’s that time of year again and BUMS are looking for a new committee for 2018/19!

When: Thursday 26th of April, 4pm to 7pm
Where: Room TBC

In order to stand please send an email to Tilly Shoul, our secretary, at secretary@bumsonline.org.uk, saying which role(s) you'd like to apply for.
*This is not mandatory to stand on the day - last minute entries are accepted!*
On the day you can run for as many roles as you like but cannot hold more than one position if successfully elected.

Running for a role involves giving a ONE MINUTE speech (which will be timed!) followed by a blind vote. If you have any questions please speak to Jack Kelly, Jess Cselko, or any of the current committee regarding their role. We look forward to seeing you there!

President: Often thought of as the face of the society the President oversees all the goings-on in the society. This includes organising and chairing committee meetings, meets with the core committee (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer) most weeks, and representatives from the Department of music as well as liaises with the Union. This role carries a lot of responsibility and President tends to make final decision for any matter arising as well as dealing with enquiries both internal and external to the society. The President helps shape the direction and priorities of the society. Previous experience being a committee member is highly recommended but not essential to the role.
Please note: Prospective Presidents will be allocated 2 minutes for their speech rather than one.

Vice-President: Otherwise known as the second in command! The Vice-President assists the President throughout the year with key decisions regarding the society and is in charge of the society whenever the President is absent. The Vice-President undertakes any delegations from the President, notably the organisation of BUMS' presence the Welcome Fair.

Secretary: The Secretary minutes all committee meetings, distributes them afterwards, drafts emails to the society and organises the committee meetings as delegated by the President. Alongside this, the Secretary is often a central point of contact, particularly during the conducting audition period and AGM preparations. Due to the nature of the role the secretary must be present at ALL meetings.

Treasurer: The Treasurer is in charge of all things money! The Treasurer has responsibility for the society accounts/budgets and must know the account balance throughout the year. Any expenditure requests must be approved by the Treasurer and the Treasurer must be in frequent contact with the Union.

Chamber Music Coordinator: Responsible for organising the BUMS chamber music series, the Chamber Music Coordinator encourages musicians in the society to forms chamber ensembles and supports them with concert opportunities. This involves liaising with the committee, musicians, the Department of Music and venues.
Current Chamber Music Coordinator: Hugh Dorward

Concerts Administrator: Oversees all concert arrangements for the main ensembles of the society. This includes collating information for and printing concert programmes as well as sorting any concert requirements such as refreshments, stage management, stewarding etc. The Concert Administrator is also responsible for organising our annual concert at St George's.
Current Concerts Administrator: Mared Browning

Communications Officer: Responsible for the society’s social media platform. This involves keeping up to date: the society website; Facebook page; and Instagram account. In addition to this the Communications Officers creates any Facebook events for concerts to make sure as many people are informed as possible.

Publicity Officer: Responsible for creating publicity material for the society to promote the society’s events throughout the year. Specifically, this means posters, flyers, banners etc. Recommended to those with an interest in graphic design!

Social Secretary: Involves creating fun events for the whole society! Responsible for the organisation of all the society’s social events this can be anything from pub quizzes, to night-outs, not forgetting a Christmas Formal and the end of year BUMS Ball! Please note that if you would like to run for social sec than you may run solo or in a pair, but any solo candidates will perform the role alone. We won’t be mixing and matching solo candidates to form a pair so please consider this carefully!

Tour Officer: Responsible for the organisation of a successful BUMS Tour! This involves liaising with your chosen tour company, the committee, in particular President and Treasurer as well as those signed-up to go on tour. The Tour Officer must be able to answer any queries sent your way from the committee or students in regards to tour.

Ensemble Managers: In charge of the day to day running of any given ensemble. Includes being friendly with the porters and photocopier, booking rooms for rehearsals, keeping ensemble registers, and being a point of contact for queries within the ensemble as well as the committee. Must be willing to work with the conductor of said ensemble to ensure smooth running and to be in attendance of all the ensemble rehearsals. The duties vary slightly depending on the ensemble so please speak to one of the current ensemble managers if you are unsure as to the specifics of that ensemble.
Current Ensemble Managers: Amelia Craddock (Chamber Choir), Sarah E. Cooper (Chamber Orchestra), Lily Holland (Symphonic Winds), Caitlin McManus (Wind Orchestra), Finton Kealee (String Orchestra) and Andrew Slater (Brass band)
