// Jenny Banai
A holy hush so prevails a room at the first haunting notes sung by Vancouver’s songstress, Jenny Banai. Her voice has been described as ‘explosively fluid’ and her performance, ‘utterly captivating’. With a background in classical violin and gospel singing, her song-writing style leans on strong vocal melodies and story-telling soundscapes, integrated into performances using a vocal loop station. Jenny released her debut, ‘Flowering Head’, co-produced by Peak Performance finalist Jordan Klassen in October 2015. A careful depiction of her delicate beginnings and dreamful incentives emerged with a sound reminiscent of Feist’s earlier hits. Galloping guitar notes, swoon-y violin and punchy dry beats mingle with her playful melodies, illuminating any given space. Jenny has toured Canada 4 times in support of this album and has also undertaken 1 tour of the UK, one of which she sold out of merchandise, opening for Nettwerk’s Jon Bryant. In the last 2 years Jenny also created a documentary/short film entitled ‘Where We Come Home’ featured on global news, and acquired music placement on local web series, ‘The Drive’.

// Kuri
Kuri is the latest project of musician and composer Scott Currie (previously of Oh Village). His debut EP Human Nature (October 2016) combines modern folk-pop songwriting with classical arrangements adorned with strings, horns and piano, bringing to mind contemporaries such as Sufjan Stevens or Patrick Watson. Recorded at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver, BC, the EP pulls from influences in jazz, classical, folk, and rock to create a wonderful introduction to the young artist’s career. Kuri’s lyrics hints at existentialism without spending too much time in the grey. He questions the state of his own sanity and how that plays into his relationships with others.

// Moscow Apartment Music
Moscow Apartment is an acoustic duo whose close, sweet harmonies and exquisite song craft defy their young age (14 & 15). Influenced by Big Thief, Feist, Joni Mitchell, among others, Brighid & Pascale, skilled multi instrumentalists (guitar, piano, violin, ukulele, mandolin, banjo and bass) and grads of Girls Rock Camp Toronto, are powerful & mature songstresses. When these two sing together it is like honey to the ears. Their debut single has been played on CBC and they are booked for the Winnipeg Folk, Hillside & Summerfolk festivals. Moscow Apartment love to sideways slide from more traditional folk to pop and electronic inspired indie rock.
