** Please RSVP via Meetup https://www.meetup.com/melbournejug/events/245329458/ so we can make sure we have enough space **

This month we're focussing on website maintenance and protection, and we're super excited to have a special guest joining us via Skype - Nicholas K. Dionysopoulos, the developer of both Akeeba Ltd Backup and Admin Tools (akeebabackup.com).

We'll start with some basic website security. As you probably know, security issues have become very common and no site is fully immune, but there are steps you can take to harden your Joomla website and reduce the chances of being hacked. We'll go through a basic "Top 10 Tips" to help you on the way to securing your site.

Following the Top 10, we'll demonstrate how to achieve some of these steps using Admin Tools. There are both Core (free) and Pro (paid) versions available, and Nathan (one of our recent newly-certified Joomla! Administrators), will take us through some of the things that can be achieved.

Following security, we'll take a look at Akeeba Backup - THE very first 3rd party extension you should always install on any Joomla website! Backup, backup, backup! Martin (another new Joomla! Administrator) will go over the options available in Core, and the extra things you can achieve with the Pro version, primarily offsite storage.

In the last half hour, Nicholas has kindly agreed to host an AMA and answer any questions you may have about Akeeba Backup, Admin Tools, or life in general! This is a great opportunity to chat directly with one of the longtime Joomla contributors and get some additional insight. So please start thinking now about any questions you'd like to ask Nicholas.

This is going to be an action-packed MJUG - please RSVP and tell your friends. We'll also livestream this on Facebook, but unfortunately can't guarantee that all Facebook questions will be answered - there's going to be some fancy-schmancy technology going on to get a Facebook livestream, slides, video demos and a Skype participant all happening at once, so fingers crossed it works! But if you don't want to risk missing out - turn up :)

AGENDA (times are approximate):

6:30-7:00pm - Website security "Top 10 Tips" (Nicky Veitch).

7.00-7.30pm - Using Akeeba's Admin Tools Core and Pro to improve website security (Nathan Morrow).

7.30-8.00pm - Setting up secure, automated backups using Akeeba Backup Core, and additional things you can do with Pro (including offsite storage - we'll demo Amazon S3 but there are a bunch of options) (Martin Beaumont).

8:00-8:30pm - AMA with Nicholas K. Dionysopoulos, the developer of both Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools (akeebabackup.com).

All welcome, beginners-advanced
