Vilray is a composer and performer raised in Brooklyn. He sings, whistles, and plays guitar in NYC and around the world. His recent work explores the depths of humor, heartache and romance captured in the varieties of Jazz and Country swing music played in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
With the 2017 release of three singles of original music, Vilray's unique take on the Tin Pan Alley style is gaining wider acclaim. These songs were entirely recorded live and lathe-cut to vinyl in real time--lending them a haunting warmth and authentic crackle.
Vilray made his Caffe Lena debut with Rachael Price (of Lake Street Dive) as Rachael & Vilray. We loved his performance so much we just had to have him back to share more of his music.
