Often categorised as 'crayons' with limited blending, layering and fine line capability, the best brand of oil pastels, Sennelier (chalk and cheese compared to other brands), ticks all the painting technique boxes...and more. Historically, they were developed for Pablo Picasso who was looking for a medium that could be easily used 'en plein air', applied freely on a variety of surfaces, could be varnished within days without compromising pigment intensity, and hung safely without glass protection.
This workshop will guide you through all the basics of the use of Sennelier oil pastels as well as you experiencing the joys of this, the most versatile of painting mediums, for yourself.
material required: Your favourite landscape photograph/s (printed A4) for painting reference (tutor will have some available), stretched canvas or canvas board up to 50cm wide (optional). If you have your own Sennelier oil pastels, feel free to bring them, otherwise, all other materials will be supplied.
