Free Talk by Antonio Cuadrado (In English)
Wednesday 18 April, 6-7 pm
BEYOND SUN AND BEACH, Cultural Diversity in Contemporary Spain
Spain is a fascinating country, richly endowed with a variety of landscapes, cultures and peoples, more diverse than the stereotype of “sun and beach” portrays. In this talk, Antonio will offer a look into that other lesser known Spain, from the dense green woods of Galicia and Asturias, and the Basque Country, to the Arab and Jewish heritage of Andalusia, and the complexities of Catalan society. The talk will also provide an overview of how Spain manages that internal coexistence of pluralities, the benefits and conflicts derived from such shared, yet distinctive, perspectives.
Antonio was born in Catalonia in a family of Andalusian immigrants, and he will thus provide us with a unique insider’s perspective of what it means to be Spanish today.
Q & A session at the end of the talk.
