In this 40 minute session under the expert guidance of a teaching artist, learn some of the basic glassblowing techniques to make a tumbler or vase. Seated at a bench on the hotshop floor, you will use glassblowing tools including jacks, blocks, paddles and punties to make cane and shape the molten glass into a vessel, before placing the finished work in an annealer (a kiln that cools the piece at a controlled rate to avoid stressing and cracking the glass).
Due to the annealing process, paperweights are not available to take home on the same day – your piece will be available for collection the following Wednesday after your session. If you cannot collect your piece, postage can be arranged at an additional cost of $15 per item. Quotes for international postage can be supplied.
You must be aged 14 and over to participate
You must comply with our OHS procedures or you will not be permitted access to the glassblowing studio:
Clothing must be natural – no synthetic fibres are allowed as these are highly flammable
Safety glasses must be worn (these are supplied, but reading glasses are also acceptable)
Long hair must be tied back
Covered shoes must be worn
Group bookings for this activity cannot be made, however, consecutive sessions can be booked if available
