For those who are new to Capoeira here is some more info;
Capoeira is an exciting and dynamic Afro-Brazilian art-form
that combines elements of dance, martial arts, music, and play. Rich in a history that dates back to the 1500’s following the enslavement of Africans by Portuguese migrants in Brazil, this beautiful art has survived through hundreds of years of exploitation and adversity, and in 2014 was granted ‘Cultural Heritage Status’ by UNESCO the UN’s cultural arm.
Capoeira has many benefits to both individuals and groups, as it is both a personal and community activity. This means that in an educational setting, Capoeira is particularly effective at having an impact across a number of areas:
Increases confidence and self-esteem
Develops communication and observation skills
Increases physical and mental wellbeing
Improves creativity and personal development
Encourages team-working and peer learning
Capoeira is fully inclusive and accessible to all, as at its heart is creative expression and personal development. Capoeira really is for All!
