What is a Proprioception Workshop?
Our Proprioception Workshops are great fun for both dogs and owners.
In this workshop you and your dog will be using a vast selection of equipment, some purpose made for canine fitness and some for human fitness with added safety adaptations to keep our dogs safe . Each dog will have a station made up of a selection of equipment which they will be working on for approximately 7 minutes before moving onto the next station. This is how the first hour of the workshop is spent. We then have a short comfort break whilst the equipment is being set up in more adva...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tvnSKkD_14

Who might benefit from a Proprioception Workshop?

Everyone! We have had sports dogs, pets dogs, young dogs, older dogs, toy breeds and giant breeds attend our workshops. There is something for everyone!
Through proprioception training we teach our dogs to be aware of their bodies, to develop good motor skills, balance, strength and flexibility.

Dogs that are more self-aware and have good motor skills also are more self-confident. Through teaching proprioception exercises we can help less confident or anxious dogs to be more confident in themselves and their handlers.

This is not just good for dogs that participate in canine sports but is a basic need for any dog. Proprioception exercises can reduce the risk of injuries and increase fitness for any dog.

By implementing proprioception training we influence different things:
- coordination
- balance
- muscle strength
- proprioception
- stamina/endurance
- self-confidence
- improved trust/bond with person
- concentration

Who is this workshop suitable for?

Our Proprioception Workshops are great fun for all ages, breeds and levels of training. Adaptions can be made to the equipment for smaller dogs. A two hour workshop may be too intensive for most puppies so please check with up prior to booking. This workshop is only for non reactive dogs. Dogs should be physically fit and not have any mobility or physical conditions/ injuries to take part in this workshop. Dogs will be on lead for this workshop and at all times within the venue. There will be a maximum of twelve participants.

The workshop will predominantly be held in the training barn although, weather permitting we may use some of the outside space also. If the weather is wet please bring a towel to dry your dogs feet prior to using the equipment.
Ideally dogs need to have an understanding of sit, down, stay, touch and heel before joining this course but this isn’t essential. Knowledge of clicker training would be advantageous. Workshops are great fun and really focus on the dog and handler bond and should improve your dogs self control and focus in the presence of other dogs.
