Carnegie Center for Literacy & Learning will host Lexington's celebration of Kentucky Writers Day at 6:00 pm on Monday, April 23, with readings by former Kentucky poets laureate Gurney Norman (2009-10), Frank X Walker (2013-14), and George Ella Lyon (2015-16). The poets laureate will be joined by Angel C. Dye and Dorian Hairston, both second-year students in the University of Kentucky MFA Program in Creative Writing.

The program will begin with a reading from the work of Kentucky writer Robert Penn Warren, whose birthdate is commemorated annually on Kentucky Writers Day. Warren, a poet and novelist who served as the first United States poet laureate, was born in Guthrie, Kentucky.

The free event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Books by the poets laureate and other members of the UK MFA faculty will be available for purchase from local bookseller Brier Books.

Lexington joins Murray, Guthrie, Louisville, and Frankfort in a statewide Kentucky Writers Day collaboration supported by the Kentucky Arts Council.
