The Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber April Breakfast Will Focus on Protecting and Preserving Local Farms
Kennebec West, a regional group dedicated to preserving farms in Manchester, Monmouth, and Winthrop, will speak at the Chamber's Thursday, April 5 breakfast.
Kennebec West's goals are focused on what towns can do to support existing farms and encourage new farms. They also hope to ensure that town zoning and ordinances support farming, along with cultivating community pride in the legacy of local farms.
During their first year, the group surveyed local farmers, mapped active, inactive, and potential farms and soils, and reviewed town ordinances to determine how "farm friendly" each town is.
At the meeting, Kennebec West will share its initial findings as well as what the towns of Winthrop, Monmouth and Manchester are doing to support farming.
Join us on Thursday, April 5th at the Winthrop Commerce Center Community Room, 16 Commerce Plaza, Winthrop, from 7:15-8:30am; public welcome. Members $7; all others $10. RSVP not necessary.
The Winthrop Commerce Café and Crostini's Catering serve a light breakfast; gluten-free, vegetarian, and heart-healthy options always available.
Special thanks to Lou Carrier and the Winthrop Commerce Center for donating the meeting space and to Brian S. Berry & Associates, CPAs for sponsoring the breakfasts, which end promptly at 8:30am.
