Deepen your knowledge, appreciation and comprehension of the Irish language by reading accessible selections from its classic and contemporary literature in both prose and poetry. The instructor will supply a booklet (for $10.00) of readings. The class will begin with a brief history of Irish literature, and then move on to some of the most distinguished Irish writers: Pádraic Mac Piarrais, Pádraic Ó Conaire, Máirtín Ó Díreáin, Máire Aine Nic Ghearailt, Jackie Mac Donnacha, Ciarán Ó Fáharta, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Gabriel Rosenstock, Eamon Ó Loinsigh, Caitlín Maud and Ré Ó Laighléis.[Note: students should have taken at least one course of Beginner’s Irish prior to this class.]

A native speaker from the Connemara Gaeltacht, Lavinia Finnerty graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG). Lavinia has many years’ experience in teaching Irish in both Ireland and internationally.

The instructor will also lead a free weekly Conversation Circle/Ciorcal Comhra at a local coffee shop beginning on Saturday, May 5 from 11:00-12:00 for any Irish language learner who wishes to practice their speaking/listening skills.
