The Granny Square is one of the most basic and versatile crochet patterns around. This basic square can be used in a variety of yarns to create vests, bags, sweaters, blankets and many other items. Granny Squares were everywhere in the 70s and now they are back.

We are going to use this versatile square to learn basic crochet and create a pair of bedroom slippers.

This class is perfect for beginners and those who maybe tried crochet once and want to try it again.

We will start with basics; choosing yarn, choosing needle, a little history and where to find patterns. Then we will learn and practice the chain stitch, the single crochet, and the double crochet. We will use these stitches as we learn to read a pattern and make the squares for our slippers. Then you will learn how to put the squares together for finish your slippers. All these skills will let you take this basic square and turn it into any other items you might want to make. If there is time we will begin looking at variations on the basic square.

All materials are provided. Cost: $30 ($20 class fee plus $10 material fee). To register, email the instructor, Nancy Gaines, at ngaines@fibrant.com. To pay, send money through PayPal to lglwitch@fibrant.com or mail a check to Nancy Gaines, 311 N. Jackson St., Salisbury, NC.
