Each year Central Christian holds a blessing of the animals.
A procession of animals, (dogs, cats, birds and your unique pets) are invited to Central Christian for a special ceremony. It is a great time to gather together and honor and give thanks for our animal friends.
A Blessing of Animals, in many congregations, witnesses to God's and the Church's love, care, and concern for creation. As we recognize our mutual interdependence with God's creatures, the Church's witness of stewardship of creation is strengthened. It is also a service with special appeal to children.
This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.
Francis is widely acknowledged as the patron saint of animals, and various legends attest to his love for nature and the environment. The friar is said to have preached to a group of birds without one flying away and to have stopped a wolf from attacking the Italian town of Gubbio by making the sign of the cross and commanding it not to hurt anyone.
Join us for our Annual Blessing of the Animals followed by treats for all of God’s creatures in the community room. It is a great time to gather together and honor and give thanks for our animal friends.
