Over the last 50 years, the Right has achieved near total control of our political system. In its most recent iterations it has moved toward Fascism. We now know that the incremental business as usual politics is ill-equipped to face this threat. And we know deep in our hearts that the time is right to take governing power for the 99%. To do this effectively, we need a new kind of politics: we call it movement politics.
Business as usual politics is based on the premise that the next election day is all that matters. As long as we run campaigns in this way, we won’t build a movement.
Movement politics is based on a different premise: politics exists on a continuum and the next Election Day is the nearest punctuation mark in a very long sentence.
Michigan People’s Campaign, Sierra Club and People’s Action are launching a leadership program for movement candidates, campaign staff, and general go getters. Movement Politics is about recruiting and training an army of movement politics leaders who will take governing power away from the wealthy elites, for the 99%.
This two day training will cover the most essential pieces of a candidate campaign for someone running for election in 2018. These topics include a deep dive in communications, field organizing, and fundraising. The training will blend proven campaign strategies and tactics with unconventional movement politics methodologies designed to maximize our advantage: people power.
The training will be on Saturday, April 21st from 10am to 6pm and continue on Sunday April 22nd from noon to 6pm. The training will be on campus at CMU. Room information will be disclosed to registered participants.
Our training team consists of highly accomplished local and national campaigners as well as elected officials from across Michigan. To read their bio's visit this link:
