Executive Director of Americans for Transit, Sigute Meilus, will greet the press and offer a presentation on Contemporary Public Transit advocacy on Friday, May 11 at 10:00 am in the Auditorium of the Charleston County Main Library at 68 Calhoun St, Charleston, SC 29401. Meilus will be visiting the Lowcountry for the Conchaco Transit Festival, a one day community celebration of transit centered on the CARTA #20 Upper King, Meeting Bus line which will provide free service between the Charleston’s Farmer’s Market, Awakening Motion events, Greek Festival, Conchaco Bar Crawl and Night Market the following day.

Meilus, better know as Siggy, worked here in Charleston as an integral part of the successful Fall 2016 Transit Complete the Penny Campaign which gained 600 million dollars in half penny sales tax money to build a rapid transit system from Charleston through North Charleston and Lincolnville to Summerville and improve regular bus service. During her visit, she’ll participate in the festival, meet with local transit riders and help local leaders plan future transit progress and traffic congestion relief for our area.
