Since 1921 Red Bird Mission has been a nonprofit organization helping in the rural, poverty-stricken region of southeastern Kentucky, with ministry, health and education. In the 1960's the Red Bird Store started selling crafts made by the students and a few local artists to help raise money for the students' school supplies. In the late 1980's Red Bird Mission Craft Program started traveling the United States with the Appalachian Craft Fair. Being hosted by churches we are able to market and promote the artists in this area nation wide. We now buy directly from the artist within an 80 mile radius of Red Bird Mission. The goal is to encourage families to produce quality handcrafted items in keeping with tradition and also bring an income where marketing can be difficult. Appalachian Craft Fair is one of many programs Red Bird Mission has to offer. Come out to one of our 30 scheduled shows for 2018 to help us support this mission.
