Wednesday, April 11th, at 5 pm will be the first part of two class Poetry Writing Workshop for adults hosted by local poet Donald Nitchie. Join us for this casual Poetry Workshop, where we will read and discuss poems from classic and contemporary poets, and then use those poems as models for in-class writing exercises. Students are encouraged to share their work with the group if interested. As the poet William Matthews once said, “Artists have their life drawing classes—why can’t writers have a similar kind of thing.”

Chilmark poet Donald Nitchie’s poetry collection Driving Lessons was published by Pudding House in 2008 and he has his MFA from Columbia University. He has published poems in MV Arts and Ideas, in the magazine Salamander, and has a poem forthcoming in the Cape Cod Poetry Review. He enjoys leading poetry-workshops, which he has done on the island for over 25 years. The first class will be Wednesday, April 11th, and the second class Wednesday, April 25th. In the second class students will be invited to bring in poems by their own favorite poets to read to and inspire the group.
