As we kick of Earth Month, the Environment & Sustainability department has put together a month full of events to educate the community & share their love for the environment! #MBRisingAbove

April 1: Sea turtle season begins!
Steer clear of marked nesters and turn off lights that face the beach. Sea turtle season runs from April 1 – October 31.

April 19: Miami Beach Senior High Eco-Fair | Beach High
10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
The annual Miami Beach Senior High Eco-Fair is led by the schools’ ecology club & serves as a platform for students to learn about environmental efforts & organizations throughout the county. Participation at this event will allow staff to share the community’s environment and sustainability initiatives with a younger audience.

April 19: Restoring & Preserving Urban Tree Canopy for Water Management in Miami Beach
Miami Beach Golf Club | 2301 Alton Road
6 PM to 8 PM
In partnership with the Green Infrastructure Center, we'll host a public workshop to discuss the importance of trees in the urban landscape including steps that both the city & public can take to preserve the city’s canopy. We encourage the community to come out and provide their feedback on their wants from our urban forest.

April 20: Dune Restoration
Lummus Park Beach
9 AM to 12 PM
Through the support of the Institute for Regional Conservation & Dune Specialist, Rob Barron, the city will be leading volunteers in a dune restoration event at the beach adjacent to Lummus Park. The dune restoration will involve the removal of non-native invasive vegetation and the planting of native species. Volunteers can receive Community Service hours for their participation.

April 20 : Play Time & After-School Earth Day Activity
9 AM to 1 PM
In honor of Earth Day, #MBParks will lead a clean-up with after-school & play-time participants. This will teach participants about the importance of not littering and maintain the areas around parks and park facilities.

April 20: Earth Day at Miami Beach Botanical Gardens
Miami Beach Botanical Gardens | 2000 Convention Center Drive

We will join local environmental organizations at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden’s Earth Day celebrations to provide information on the city’s environmental efforts.

April 21: Baynanza Volunteer Clean-Up
Maurice Gibb Park | 1700 Purdy Avenue
9 AM to 12 PM
Miami-Dade County will be engaging thousands of community volunteers throughout the county in cleaning approximately 25 locations along Biscayne Bay’s shorelines and islands, including Maurice Gibb Park and Flagler Memorial Island (Monument Island), as part of the 36th Annual Baynanza. April 22: Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off & Paper Shredding
40 Street & Chase Avenue
8 AM to 3 PM
The bi-annual household hazardous waste collection and paper shredding event will take place at the parking lot on 40 Street and Chase Avenue. During the event, residents and employees can drop off old chemicals, paints, and electronics for proper disposal, as well as old documents for secure paper shredding. This will help keep hazardous waste out of our landfills and our waterways.

April 24: Sea Turtle Awareness Public Workshop
Miami Beach Golf Club | 2301 Alton Road
6 PM to 7 PM
Staff will continue education and outreach efforts with residents, businesses, and visitors in order to promote awareness on the importance of not disturbing sea turtles and minimizing light that is visible from the beach.

April 27: Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony & Proclamation
Stillwater Park | 8440 Hawthorne Avenue
10 AM to 11 AM
Miami Beach will celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony and proclamation in Stillwater Park that will bring attention to the importance of the urban forest and will re-qualify the city to receive the Tree City USA designation. Miami Beach has held this designation for 13 years, which is a testament to the efforts of our community’s hard work to protect our vital tree canopy.

April 27: Arbor Day Sampling Giveaway

9 AM to 2 PM
The Public Works, Greenspace Management Division will host its annual sapling giveaway. The division will visit students at Biscayne Elementary, South Pointe, Fienberg-Fisher, and North Beach Elementary for a fun, educational event on how to plant and care for their recently acquired saplings.

April 28: Community Tree Giveaway
North Shore Youth Center | 501 72 Street
9 AM to 12 PM
In continuation of the Arbor Day Celebrations, Greenspace Management, Parks and Recreation, and Environment and Sustainability will be hosting a tree giveaway event. The giveaway will include multiple fruit and flowering trees, as well as balcony plants for residents of multi-family homes.
