Richard Bonner Biography:
Living in Traverse City how can you not be inspired to be an artist. I continue to live a life that has developed a deep respect and love for the outdoors. I retired after 37 wonderful years as a Michigan DNR Conservation Officer. Now I have discovered being a Plein-air artist I could once again be back enjoying the outdoors. Being a Conservation Officer I was always looking for what was wrong in the woods. Now being an artist I am looking for what is “Right” in the woods with an eye for composition and color. I paint in a variety of media which include oils, acrylic and my favorite mixed water media. My influences include Stephen Quiller master artist best known as “The Painter of Color”. He taught me to put the camera away and to rely on my sketch book as the guide for my painting. This made me not tie myself to a photograph for the color and composition. Wildlife artist Rod Lawrence taught me the “Eye” for detail in my paintings along with composition.
