In 1864, The Clayton House, then known as the Sutton Mansion, was confiscated by the Union Army for use as a hospital. On April 21st, in conjunction with the Fort Smith Bicentennial Celebration (200 Fort Smith), we will recreate that time in the house’s history. Reenactors will portray soldiers, the sick and injured, nurses and, of course, the chief surgeon, Dr. Bennett.
Doug Kidd, as Dr. Bennett, will bring period reproduction medical equipment, set up an operating room in the house and give presentations on medical practices during the Civil War.
In addition, there will be music, entertainment and crafts for the children.
Admission: $5 for adults
A Civil War era lunch of beans and cornbread may be purchased for $5
