Dr. Lindabeth Binkley (oboe) and Prof. MaryBeth Minnis (bassoon) invite intermediate and advanced double reed students (ages 13-19) to the Central Michigan University School of Music for our first Double Reed Spring Fling. Shake off the winter double reed doldrums and join us for an inspiring day of master classes, reed making, double reed ensemble fun, and more!
Advanced players should bring a solo and plan on working with the professors in a master class. Intermediate players should bring a solo or other music to play, too. They may choose between observing the Advanced Master Class or may opt to get one-on-one help from CMU Double Reed Students.
We will spend the bulk of the afternoon in the Reed Room exploring the reed making process. Newbie to Advanced, you will learn something new about your reeds and how to make them better. We will provide the tools for those who do not have any as well as reed making materials for all who participate. (This is also a great opportunity to get a feel for what it is like to attend our summer Reed Making Camp!)
Lastly, we will explore the wonderful world of Double Reed Ensemble Repertoire (including an opportunity to try out the English horn and contrabassoon) in a reading session to select repertoire for the 2018 Reed Making Camp (June 17-22), which is held as part of the CMU Summer Music Institute.
