A brief look at the changes of the Project Management Standards of Project Management Institute (PMI) and International Project Management Association (IPMA).

The demand for Project Management in any industry has been continuously increasing in the past decades. In many researches companies confirmed the value of Project Management to their business. Most of them think it’s value is even going to rise in the future.

Nevertheless, a remarkable number of projects fail or are severely delayed. Articles about millions of dollar or Euro lost in projects can be read in newspapers all over the world.
Several world-wide acting Project Management associations take care for a methodological approach to Project Management, most famous are PMI® (Project Management Institute), and IPMA@ (International Project Management Association). Both support Project Management practitioners with detailed standards.
Based on market research and other activities these standards have been adapted to the state of the art of the profession several times, and by this tried to continuously improve the alignment of standards to real-world demands.

Gonder Consulting via trainings and coaching supports companies from all industries to tailor and apply project management standards since many years.

During the presentation, you will see the adaptions of the latest version of PMI’s Project Management Standard “A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge – PMBoK® Guide”. A look to changes in IPMA’s ICB 4.0 (IPMA Competence Baseline) will also be provided. Both Project Management standards are aimed to cover actual demands from clients all over the world:

Herbert Gonder, Gonder Consulting GmbH

Herbert Gonder, is consultant and trainer in project management, certified by PMI (www.pmi.org) as a PMP and by IPMA (www.ipma.world) as “Certified Senior Project Manager, Level B”. He founded Gonder Consulting GmbH in 2005 and Gonder Consulting GmbH (Switzerland) in 2007. He is owner and managing director of Gonder Consulting GmbH (www.gonderconsulting.com).

Herbert has a Master-degree in Computer Science of the University of Erlangen, Germany, and a degree as a non-medical practitioner in psychotherapy according German law. He has more than three decades of experience in the management and specification of large projects in various industries with responsibility for budget, time, and human resources all over Europe. His experience includes the latest tools and techniques for self-organisation, presenting and reporting.

Herbert is a member of the board of PMI Southern Germany Chapter www.pmi-sgc.de since 2004 and contributed to PMI in many ways but especially in translating and commenting PMI’s standard development as a member of PMBOK Guide Team for the 4th /5th & 6th edition.
In the IPMA organization Herbert started in 2011 to volunteer as an assessor for IPMA Level C certification at VZPM (www.vzpm.ch) in Switzerland.

Herbert is also engaged as a lecturer in academic education for project management and preparation for PMI’s CAPM® certification in various universities. Since 2012 until today he is with DHBW University Stuttgart (http://www.dhbw.de/)
